End-to-End bike tour joins Earth Day Celebration

By On Deck Staff

With the first day of spring upon us it is time to get your bike out and plan your first long ride of the season.
How about a fun ride from one end of Ocean City to another, ending at the Earth Day Celebration at the Bayside Center?
The End-to-End Family Bike Tour sponsored by the Ocean City High School Interact Club is now in its third season and is drawing a bigger crowd each year.
The tour planned for Sunday, April 19 kicks off at the Beach Patrol Lifeguard Station at 58th Street and Central Avenue at 10 a.m.
The eight-mile tour will wind through the neighborhoods of Ocean City to the Boardwalk and continue to the Gardens Section before ending at the Bayside Center at Sixth and Bay Avenue.
In the past, proceeds from the End-to-End Family Bike Tour have helped many local organizations including the Ocean City Humane Society, the Ocean City Food Cupboard and the Ocean City Stainton Senior Center.
In line with the Interact club’s commitment to giving back to the community, this year the Club is accepting additional donations to help sponsor an Ocean City High School student’s Eagle Scout Project to benefit Ocean City.
The End-to-End Family Bike Tour was founded three years ago by Dana Eiselen, then an Ocean City High School senior and President of the Interact Club.
The bike tour’s success was nationally recognized in its first year by Toyota Motor Sales when Eiselen was one of 100 high school seniors recognized nationally as a Toyota Community Scholar.
Eiselen is now a sophomore at Haverford College where she majors in economics.
Though now an OCHS alumna, she continues to help organize the bike tour each year, working closely with Interact Club members and the club’s faculty advisor, Phyllis Turner.
Eiesler noted, “The End-to-End Family Bike Tour has grown each year and we hope to set a record this year. The event is a great way for families and friends to get together and have a good time.”
The tour will end at the Earth Day Celebration at the Bayside Center.
Refreshments, entertainment and goodies will be provided to all. Ample parking is available at the Tabernacle at Sixth and Asbury Avenue.
Registration forms for the Bike Tour can be found at ocnj.us/earthday or ocean.city.k12.nj.us. Call 609-525-9300.
The Ocean City Earth Day Celebration also in its third year will feature over 40 exhibits, live music by Jim Albertson and others, free boat tours, children’s games and inflatable, the Turtle Singer, Cape May County Zoo, food, awards and much, much more.
The Celebration kicks off at 11 a.m. and continues until 3 p.m.
