UPDATED: Wandering Bull Escapes to Seashore Road

By Jack Fichter

COLD SPRING — A bull in a china shop is unwelcome and so is a bull on Seashore Road.
On March 4, Lower Township Animal Control Officer Don Montgomery was called to capture a bull that escaped from a plot of muddy ground surrounded by a rickety fence in the 900 block of Seashore road, across from the Carl Mitnick School.
Montgomery had rounded up the same bull six months earlier. The bull was now six months older and about double in size. The small plot of land also houses horses.
Before Montgomery took the bull by the horns or actually with a rope, the bull had trapped a neighboring property owner in his car as it stood by the vehicle and charged another individual. The bull also visited the parking lot of the school.
A wire fence supported by wooden posts that could be pulled out of the ground with one hand was no match for the bull that escaped again one hour later and Montgomery returned for a second capture.
The bull’s owner, Casi Rupinski was not at the property when police and animal control arrived. According to a report sheet from the New Jersey County Information System, Rupinski was lodged in the county jail as of March 1.
Lower Township Construction Official Gary Playford and Township Code Enforcement Official Walt Fiore were called to the scene to assess the situation at 1 p.m. Playford told the Herald a stop work order had been issued last year for a partially completed barn on the property. He said he asked Rupinksi not to use the barn until proper plans were submitted.
Playford said code enforcement cited Rupinski for a fence in disrepair.
