Obese Cat Rescued from Foreclosed Home

By Other News Source

SEA ISLE CITY – Sprinkles, a 33-pound cat, was surrendered to the non-profit S.O.S. Sea Isle City Cats April 23 after a house foreclosure, according to The Press of Atlantic City.
“We’ve seen fat cats at 20 to 25 pounds but this is just obscene,” Stacy Jones Olandt, a volunteer, told The Press of Atlantic City. “This is similar to a 600 or 700 pound human that should weigh 180 pounds.”
Volunteers told The Press of Atlantic City that Sprinkles arrived with a flea infestation, ear mites, a rear-end infection, and grossly overweight. She should weigh about 10 pounds.
Sprinkles is expected to recover. Volunteers have addressed the fleas and mites and Sprinkles is on antibiotics, which will slowly shed the weight, about one pound a month, according to the report.
S.O.S. Sea Isle City Cats told The Press of Atlantic City that one of their missions is animal awareness education and they are using this case to remind people over-feeding a pet is a form of abuse.
Sprinkles’ story went viral and was a trending topic on Facebook April 28.
