By Jack Fichter

CAPE MAY- In honor of the Feast of Saint Francis of Assisi, Sunday Oct. 4, Monsignor Thomas McIntyre of Our Lady Star of the Sea Church, held a blessing of pets, Friday Oct. 2.
Following the 9 a.m. mass, children from Star of the Sea School poured onto the lawn to watch the blessing, some bringing their dogs. Members of the community also were on hand to have their pets blessed including a hermit crab.
Most of the dogs were small in size with the exception of a Husky and Fire Chief Jerry Inderwies Jr. with the family dog, Joi, a lab/terrier mix.
According to American Catholic, org, Saint Francis was able to communicate with animals and was one of the world’s earlier ecologists.
