CAPE MAY — Now’s the time of year when Monarch butterflies wing their way toward warmer places, like Mexico, to spend the winter.
Naturalist Louise Zemaitis tagged many of the southward-bound travelers during a Harborfest celebration at The Nature Center of Cape May, Sept. 29.
Many residents of Cape May County have assumed the role of butterfly feeders, and have planted vegetation in their gardens that butterflies need to eat prior to making their grueling 17-mile trek over Delaware Bay.
The Nature Center as well as other locations have information on butterfly gardens for those interested in making their yards inviting to the migrants.
