CAPE MAY – A small victory for dogs gets them and their owners an extra month to use the beaches and Promenade in Cape May.
City Council introduced an ordinance change on Aug. 7 that will extend the period when dogs may be taken onto city beaches and the Promenade. The new period runs from November through April.
Adding April to the allowable times was done in response to recommendations from the Pet Advisory Committee which urged the city to provide extra time for dog owners to use otherwise restricted areas.
The committee had also recommended relaxing regulations against dogs on the Washington Street Mall, but success there was more elusive. The only change in the ordinance as introduced was to allow properly documented service animals on the mall.
