Rutgers Offers Beginners Bee Keeping Course

COURT HOUSE — Registration is now open for a Beekeeping course conducted by members of the NJ Beekeepers Association and in conjunction with Rutgers Cooperative Extension Office of Cape May County for those interested in learning about managing your own beehive.
Anyone with an interest in beekeeping will have an opportunity to learn about bee biology, hive management, hive equipment construction, handling bees, pests of bees and honey processing. No previous education or training in handling bees is required. The course will be limited to 40 individuals.
The program includes five sessions of classroom training and one in the field.
Registration fee is $30 per person for those who are members of one of the Branches of the New Jersey Beekeepers Association, which includes class materials, and depending on involvement additional charges between $150 and $250 are appropriate.
Classes will run from March 18 through April 15 with the sixth session to be established when the bees arrive. Classes will be held in Cape May Court House at the Rutgers Cooperative Extension Office, with the exception of the last session in the field to demonstrate the installation of bees into a hive.
