The city of North Wildwood will host a major celebration in honor of Greek Independence Day on Saturday, March 28 at noon.
This year’s celebration will once again take place in front of the North Wildwood Recreation Center, 10th and Central avenues.
This year’s event will pay tribute to the 188th anniversary of Greek Independence Day, March 25, 1821. Various civic observances will be held throughout southern Cape May County.
North Wildwood’s celebration will be the first event of the day. The observance will include a brief program, the presentation of proclamations, and the raising of the Greek flag.
The service will commemorate the revolution and restoration of the Greek nation after almost 400 years of occupation and enslavement to the Ottoman Empire.
The event is coordinated by the St. Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church in North Wildwood.
The honorary chairs for this year’s event include United States Marshal James Plousis, and Wildwood city solicitor Marcus Karavan.
Chairman Dr. Lester Katsanis, Parish Council President William Mitchell, and the Rev. Steven J. Vlahos will also be leading the civic observances in Cape May County.
North Wildwood’s mayor and city council will be attending Greek Independence Day celebration.
