God called upon a star,
To help Him with His plan.
“I’m sending down My son,
To be born as a common man.
I want you to shine your brightest,
For all the world to see.
Let them know He’s coming,
So they can be set free.”
The star was oh so honored,
To be asked to accept this task.
It eagerly nodded its consent,
But had to pause and ask.
“Lord, why ask me, a lonely star,
To carry out Your will?
Others would be better suited,
To see Your wish fulfilled.”
The Lord just smiled, knowingly,
“You’re not just a lonely star.
There are a million others with you,
But you shine just the way you are.”
Just like that Christmas star,
We were ordinary and plain.
Until Jesus was sent to Earth,
To save us all again.
So this Christmas as we sing carols,
Open presents and eat our fill.
Remember that star is still shining,
Like his love for us always will.
And that star? It shone so proudly,
Happy to help the Lord above.
Its guidance promised hope and peace,
Forgiveness, thankfulness, and love.
