EGG HARBOR TOWNSHIP – Dr. Thomas Dierkes doesn’t always need to be wearing his white doctor’s coat to change lives in a positive way. As a respected pediatrician at Rainbow Pediatrics, Dr. Dierkes always goes above and beyond to provide attentive care to children and adolescents to ensure they are happy and healthy.
When it comes to helping those in need outside of the office, Dr. Dierkes has also been known to go the extra mile (or 167). On June 14, 2015, Dr. Dierkes participated in a bikeathon that stretched from the Ben Franklin to the Boardwalk of Atlantic City. His 67-mile trek on two wheels and with a recovering sprained knee raised over $1,500 for the American Cancer society.
This year, Dierkes upped his game and took the 100-mile route in the same bikeathon, raising an additional $1,000 for the charity.
“The 67-mile trip was about five hours and 30 minutes; the 100-mile trip this year took over seven hours. Both times I felt so good about raising those dollars for such an important cause, albeit exhausted, when I crossed the finish line.”
In addition to his inspiring bikeathon completion, Dr. Dierkes donates to other worthy causes in the field of health, such as Cape Regional’s Brodesser Cancer Center. “Even though they do not treat children,” he said, “they provide a great service to the community. I know how difficult it is for patients to travel all the way to the city for treatment and it must be even more difficult for those with cancer. The Cancer Center at Cape Regional gives local access to top-notch treatment here in the Jersey Shore area,” he said.
Dr. Dierkes has dedicated more than half of his life to the care of others, as one of several skilled and professional pediatricians at Rainbow Pediatrics that work to keep children happy and healthy at one of Rainbow Pediatrics’ three convenient office locations – Egg Harbor Township, Clermont and Rio Grande. Their mission is to provide superior pediatric care to infants, children and adolescents in a friendly and compassionate atmosphere.
A board certified pediatrician and a fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics, Dr. Dierkes completed his under graduate degree in chemistry at Seton Hall University and went to Medical School at the University of Health Science in Kansas City, Miss. Dr. Dierkes performed his pediatric training at the Children’s Hospital of New Jersey in Newark, N.J. He has been with Rainbow Pediatrics since 1997.
Dr Dierkes also has volunteered his time for Volunteers in Medicine (VIM) since 2003. In 2010 Dr. Dierkes was recognized as a Caring Volunteer Physician by VIM. He was also honored by Horizon NJ Health in 2011 for their service and dedication to the community in 2011. Dr. Dierkes serves on the Board of Trustees for Cape Regional Health System.
