Campgrounds Must Remain Closed; No Local Need for Housing Medical Professionals Exists

COURT HOUSE – The Cape May County Health Department and the County Prosecutor’s Office wish to make it clear that all campgrounds in the county are to remain closed currently. 
According to a release, certain campgrounds have remained open saying they are providing lodging to medical personnel at the direction of the Cape May County Health Department, but at this time there has not been determined a need for medical lodging in Cape May County and this directly contradicts Gov. Phil Murphy’s Executive Order 107 ordering all campgrounds in the state closed and deemed unessential business currently.
“We need all businesses to listen to the orders by the governor,” stated county Health Officer Kevin Thomas. “While we appreciate any business that wants to help during this time, it must be done prudentially and with the proper approvals.”
The decision on what businesses are essential and non-essential during this COVID-19 Outbreak are made by only Gov. Phil Murphy and the closing of campgrounds across the state were confirmed by the Cape May County Prosecutor’s Office and Cape May County Health Department upon discussions with the Governor’s office.
“We are all trying to do our best to ensure we follow the Governor’s directive as he is the voice for the entire State,” stated Freeholder Jeffrey Pierson. “The county had already suggested a delayed opening for campgrounds in the county before the governor ordered them closed throughout the whole State. We continue to have a dialogue with the governor as needs arise and our circumstances change.”
