The Fishing Line: Striper Hide and Seek

By Carolyn Miller

Mid-December and the reports are slow but the photos prove there’s plenty of good fishing around. Call your favorite captain or charter before heading out. Many have limited schedules these frosty days.
Matt McGaffney Team Over Pour Sport-fishing tells me that the Delaware Bay chunk bite is still on but slowing while Cape May Rips are heating up, and they sent the pictures to prove it.
For fly anglers, Captain Ray reports some frustration since Sandy. Anglers using live bait fish and bunker chunking are catching fish, but with the waters still like chocolate milk it is impossible for stripers to even see a fly. Normally this is a great time of the year for catching stripers on the fly but since the storm it has been nothing near normal. Water has started cleaning up a bit and Ray is hopeful that he might get a last minute shot on the fly before the end of the season.
