C.A.L. Basketball Tournament Underway

The Cape-Atlantic League girls and boys basketball tournament began Feb. 16 with a few local teams looking for a spot in the finals at Stockton University on Feb. 24.
The defending girls champion and second-seeded Ocean City hosted No. 7 Cedar Creek on Feb. 16 and won, 48-24. After a slow start, the Red Raiders rallied to move on to the next round with Abbey Fenton leading with 13 points and Kilie Wyers adding 9 points. They will play No. 3 Millville on Feb. 21 at St. Augustine Prep in the semifinals.
The Middle Township and Wildwood Catholic girls earned the fifth and eighth seeds, respectively, and fell to their opponents on Friday night.
The Wildwood Catholic boys earned the second-seed and hosted No. 7 Millville and won, 63-51. Caleb Fields led the Crusaders with 20 points with Jacob Hopping and Taj Thweatt adding 13 and 11 points, respectively. They will move on to play defending boys champion and No. 3 St. Augustine Prep on Feb. 22 at Absegami High School in the semifinals.
The Ocean City boys, ranked eighth, fell to top-ranked Atlantic City on Friday night.
The winners of the girls and boys semifinal games will play in the final game at Stockton University on Feb. 24. The girls will play at 12 p.m. with the boys to follow at 2 p.m.
