WILDWOOD CREST – It’s NASCAR on the water! Championship power boat racing returns to the Wildwoods the weekend of Oct. 6 and 7. The Wildwoods will again be hosting the New Jersey Governor’s Cup races, as well as the American Power Boat Association Eastern Divisionals! The event, conducted on the bay waters of Wildwood Crest, will be the last stop on the American Power Boat Associations race boat circuit.
Ann Fitzgerald, who coordinates the Hydrofest for the host community, Wildwood Crest, stated that 80 to 85 race teams are expected this year, an increase of 20 teams over previous years due to the Eastern Divisionals title. Fitzgerald is particularly excited to know that at least four Grand Prix hydroplanes have made a commitment for Hydrofest. Grand Prix class, the most exciting hydroplane class on the circuit, runs big block super-charged motors, boasting 1500 hp. Big noise! Big roostertails! Grand Prix – they are the biggest and baddest hydroplanes! Don’t miss them!
Wildwoods Hydrofest is free to Wildwood’s visitors; visitors should plan on a full day from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. In addition to racing, there is a Marketplace with food, merchandise, and craft vendors, as well as displays and entertainment. After the races, there is much to enjoy in the Wildwoods! Great restaurants, the Boardwalk and Piers, or a relaxing walk on the beautiful beaches.
