United Way Honors Morey’s Piers, Kicks Off 20th Annual Rubber Duck Regatta

CAPE MAY – United Way of Greater Philadelphia and Southern New Jersey (UWGPSNJ) will recognize Morey’s Piers for their outstanding support of United Way and the community of Cape May County during a celebratory event planned for May 16, 2013 at Althea’s Restaurant in Cape May, NJ. The event begins at 5:30 p.m. Tickets are $25 and are available now by calling 609-404-4483 ext 13.
Over the past 20 years, Morey’s Piers has played host to one of Cape May County’s biggest and most colorful community fund-raisers, the United Way Rubber Duck Regatta. It’s an event that draws support and spectators from throughout the county, and beyond, and has raised an impressive $500,000 to date to support essential health and human service needs in Cape May County.
“Morey’s Piers has been an incredible community partner during their 20 years hosting United Way’s annual Rubber Duck Regatta,” said John Emge, Executive Director of UWGPSNJ in Atlantic and Cape May Counties. “During this milestone year, we want to take this opportunity to applaud their exceptional support which has enabled us to help change lives in Cape May County by improving Education, Income, and Health – the building blocks to a better life – for all.”
The May 16 event will also serve as the kickoff of the 2013 United Way Rubber Duck Regatta sponsored by South Jersey Industries, which will take place August 18, 2013 at Morey’s Piers Mariner’s Landing in Wildwood, NJ. And as part of the kickoff event, as assortment of the iconic souvenir ducks will be available for purchase along with a raffle ticket to enter the race. Sales will continue in locations throughout the county all summer long. Sponsors of the event include: South Jersey Industries, Crest Savings Bank, McDonald’s, 1st Bank of Sea Isle City, Cape Bank, Atlantic City Electric, 95.1 WAYV and The Herald Newspaper.
“We receive an incredible amount of support for this event which translates into significant dollars to fund vital programs and services in our community,” said Joel Murray, owner of One Off Marketing and Local Operating Board Chair. “From sponsorships to selling ducks to race-day volunteers, it’s an impressive example of true collaboration – the idea that by coming together we can achieve lasting impact that none of us can alone.”
