A celebration of the 45th Anniversary of the classic Underdog cartoon is set for 1 p.m., Oct. 3 at the Ocean City Arts Center, 17th and Simpson Ave.
Suzanne Muldowney, who for years has resurrected the character in Ocean City parades and on national television, has brought the date to the attention of the City’s public relations office. So to honor Muldowney and to entertain the public, a program has been scheduled to mark this auspicious occasion.
The afternoon will feature the showing of Underdog cartoons and a documentary film on Muldowney who has devoted her life to the principles of fair play fostered by the intrepid canine.
The award-winning documentary was produced by filmmaker Boris Gavrilovic, who spent four years tracing Muldowney’s exploits throughout the country.
In the film Muldowney is shown lecturing Howard Stern, acting in a dramatic play that she wrote with performers in New York, and discussing her devotion to Underdog in interviews. It is a sympathetic portrayal that reveals an explanation for her fascination with the character.
There will be an Underdog look-alike contest for those so inclined, and the audience is encouraged to bring Underdog memorabilia for display. Muldowney will conclude the program, portraying Underdog in an interpretive dance.
Visitors may join in singing Happy Birthday to Underdog and then enjoy a slice of birthday cake. Admission is free.
