Nature Center Hosts Girls’ Weekend Getaway

CAPE MAY – Fishing, kayaking, wine tours and so much more! Billed as a “Girls’ Weekend Getaway,” Cape May’s premier outdoorswoman, Nature Center Director Gretchen Whitman is inviting interested ladies to join her for a weekend of outdoor fun and adventure, Sept. 21 and 22.
Saturday starts out with a morning workshop for the novice angler and refresher courses on rigging, casting and fish finding for the more experienced members of the group. We’ll provide the coffee and donuts. Plan to get wet and make some new friends. After a lunch at one of Cape May’s popular haunts, we’ll meet at the docks and board our vessel for a four hour offshore adventure.
Make it a weekend and return on Sunday for a guided kayak eco-tour of Cape May Harbor and the surrounding salt marsh. We’ll even bring along some poles and gear and practice our new skills. Remember, no experience, poles, tackle or bait is necessary. Fishing always makes us hungry so lunchtime will find some of us choosing the Lobster House’s schooner for a lunchtime feast al fresco. We’ll continue the adventure after lunch with a guided tour complete with tastings at the Cape May Winery.
Prerequisites for the Ladies’ Fishing and Fun Weekend are few….love of the outdoors, love of fun and love to learn. Show up with a willing heart and a good attitude and you’re sure to have a great time and make some new friends in the process.
Cost for members is $60 per day ($80 per day for non-members), which includes boat, captain, crew, rods & reels, tackle, bait and winery tour. Lunches are not included. Call the Center, 609-898-8848 or email the Director: Gretchen.Whitman@NJAudubon to reserve your space.
