Motts Creek Pickers

By Michelle Riggins

Motts Creek Pickers was formed three years ago when three friends: Joe Faunce, Jack Zawaski, and Steve Gitto were playing one Saturday night at the Motts Creek Inn in Smithville, New Jersey. These musicians are a cover band that play an all American music selection with an alternative edge including everything from Classic Rock to Country.
They play hits “The Devil Went Down To Georgia” by the Charlie Daniels Band, “Turn The Page” by Bob Seger, and a little bit of Orange Blossom Special. The Beatles, Neil Young, Eagles, Bad Company, among many other popular bands comprise MCP’s playlist. Although, these are songs that are arranged like you’ve never heard them before, when Jack adds his fiddle playing to create their own “signature” mix.
Joe and Jack have been friends since their childhood years and have been performing together professionally for over 30 years. The two were once a part of a band called “Nuth’n Fancy” in the early 80s, as well as “Jack Zawacki & The Tone Bombs” three years ago just before they formed MCP. Steve joined them when he replaced a member of their previous band and has been performing with them ever since. Steve is the lead vocal and plays the acoustic guitar; Joe is the base player, while Jack is vocals and plays the fiddle.
MCP has a great following, and has performed at casinos in Atlantic City, at various outdoor gigs, Country- Themed Nights, and Beach Concerts. According to Joe Faunce, “[With us] you can sit back, relax, and listen. If everyone’s having fun, we’re having fun!” MCP loves what they do, and feel “When you are doing something that is fun while being amongst friends…it doesn’t get better than that!” Check them out at Country Club Tavern in Swainton on Saturday October 8th and see just how great they are!
