Drifters Come to Middle Performing Arts Center Oct. 2

By Press Release

COURT HOUSE — Charlie Thomas’ Drifters, whose popularity has carried on for 53 years, will continue its longevity streak by bringing its act to the Performing Arts Center of Middle Township on Sun., Oct. 2, at 4 p.m.
The world famous singing quartet is led by Thomas, the only surviving member of the current quartet that was founded in the 1950s after the original version was fired and a new one was formed with Thomas as its lead singer. The years that followed have provided noteworthy history in the world of music for the current Drifters as its recordings have sold almost 200 million singles and more than 80 million albums in the United States alone. The Drifters have appeared in every major night club and concert hall in the United States from Las Vegas to ten sold-our performances at Madison Square Garden.
They have toured internationally four times including a bicentennial tour of Russia in 1977 and at the White House several times.
Among their many big hits are “There Goes My Baby,” “Save The Last Dance For Me,” “Under The Boardwalk” and “On Broadway.” In addition to Thomas, the present quartet consists of James Manning, Stephen Brown and Louis Bailey, with Jack Colombo as music director.
PAC manager Kay Aspell said the Drifters have been booked for the 1,000 seat Performing Arts Center as part of its policy to bring professional talent to Cape May County that audiences would have to pay larger admission prices for in Philadelphia and New York City.
“We are approaching our 20th anniversary at the Performing Arts Center and the Drifters are a prelude of a big year at which we plan to offer many other high quality acts here,” she said.
Admission prices are $25 in advance and $30 on the day of performance. Call 463-1924.
