Super promoter Norman Schaut sold Atlantique City, the world’s largest Arts, Antiques and Collectibles Show, seven years ago when it was at the height of its popularity. To keep active and give back to his beloved Ocean City, Norman and his wife, JoAnne, decided to produce a series of seasonal craft festivals with all of the profits donated to local charities.
The Schaut’s have established a new tradition in this family resort. They have made it a center for quality craft shows on the East Coast.
On March 27-28, the Spring Festival of Quality Crafts, at the City’s Music Pier, Boardwalk and Moorlyn Terrace, will be presenting the best of the best. The Schauts recruit the finest artisans available.
An example is master wood carver, Charles Melnick, of Union, who will exhibit, sell and demonstrate his skill. Melnick has completed carvings of the white rabbit and other characters from Alice in Wonderland.
Melnick will also display elaborately carved framed mirrors embellished with orchids and wreathes, turned bowls, a carousel horse, wooden knives, and more.
Other master artisans are Jane Auciello with “No Yolk” Egg Shell Art; Delores M’Anulty, miniature reproductions; Natalie Nowatkowski, a domino artist; Kim O’Reilly with “TuTo Cute” tutus; Jane Sandler, Gourmet teas and accessories, and Donovan Saunders showing custom crafted clocks.
Over 60 vendors will offer a variety of seasonal favorites, Easter specialties, jewelry, clothing, gourmet foods, and more.
Show hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. A $3 admission donation along with all profits from the show support local charities. Contact the Jersey Shore Artisans Guild at 800-225-1007 or 609-399-9998.
NOTE: The entrance to the Boardwalk at Moorlyn Terrace is closed for extensive renovations until April. Park free at lots at Eighth and Ninth sts. to enter boardwalk and show.
