Craft Beer and Crab Festival to be Held, Aug. 9

CAPE MAY – You won’t want to miss delicious family fun with steamed crabs, steamed shrimp, pulled pork, local and regional craft beers, wine, spirits and all-day entertainment during one of Cape May’s most popular summertime events on the beautiful grounds of the Emlen Physick Estate, at the Craft Beer & Crab Festival Aug. 9, from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. (with food service from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.), sponsored by the Mid-Atlantic Center for the Arts & Humanities (MAC) with major funding by PNC Bank, Gold Coast Production Management, Nobil Food Services and Longport Media.
Come to the Emlen Physick Estate, 1048 Washington St. and stretch out on your lawn chair or relax under the tents during this all-day festival that celebrates the best of summer in Cape May and was named one of the 5 Best NJ Summer Festivals by CBS NY.
Have fun cracking open freshly steamed hard shell crabs or peel a handful of steamed shrimp and savor these seaside favorites. Choose from other summertime favorites including crab cake sandwiches and pulled pork sandwiches. Stop by the hot dog stand where you can purchase hot dogs, pretzels and popcorn, soda and freshly squeezed lemonade.
Food truck vendors will also be on the estate offering an eclectic variety of tasty items for purchase, including: gourmet cupcakes at “Sheet Box Cupcakes”; specialty tacos and empanadas at “Taco Mondo”; all things bacon, including bacon chocolate chip cookies and fried bacon on a stick, at “Bacon on Wheels”; and Wisconsin battered fried cheese curds at “The Cow & the Curd.”
Wash down these scrumptious summertime foods with craft beer from local and regional breweries. Purchase and enjoy a variety of local and regional craft beers from the Harrison Beverage 10-tap beer truck, Cape May Brewery and Warner trucks. Choose from beer styles produced by a variety of Craft Breweries including: Tuckahoe, Evolution, Victory, Ommegang, Stoudts, Prism, Blue Point, Ace, Goose and Starr Hill. In addition, Tito’s Vodka will be serving vodka drinks including Bloody Marys and Lemonade Blackberry. Wine will also be available for purchase along with a variety of non-alcoholic drinks.
New in 2014! Relax under the shade of the estate’s mature trees, on your lawn chair or blanket or under the tent and listen to live music from the stage in front of Elaine’s Barn on the newly expanded festival grounds. Live musical acts will be entertaining throughout the day including the New Orleans funk of New Pony; Cape May’s local jazz trio, The Herb Moore Trio; Jersey City classic rock power trio, Devi; the acoustic guitar and vocals of Audrey Snow; along with the Cape May Jazz Trio and Audrey & Chris. In between enjoy live radio broadcasts from WMGM 103.7 FM playing classic rock with special guest appearance by on-air personality Sean Patrick. Cape May’s community radio station, WCFA-LP 101.5 FM, will also be reporting and broadcasting live from the event.
Bring the entire family to enjoy kid-friendly activities including lawn games and acrobats from the Give & Take Jugglers Little Circus, who will delight and entertain throughout the day near Hill House.
Explore the huge variety of crafts vendors on the estate grounds selling unique, hand-made and vintage items. Over 56 individual vendors will be displaying their wares. Good Housekeeping will be on site providing visitors with promotional giveaways of products that have earned the Good Housekeeping Seal of Approval.
Admission to the grounds is free. There will be a charge for crabs, food, beverages and some activities. Food service will be offered from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Free parking is available within three blocks off-site at the Cape May Elementary School, 921 Lafayette St. A free trolley shuttle will operate from the Washington Street Mall Information Booth at Ocean Street to the estate, from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Commemorative pint glasses and T-shirts will be available for purchase. Proceeds of the event benefit MAC’s numerous educational outreach programs.
The Craft Beer & Crab Festival is sponsored by MAC with funding provided at the “King Crab” level by PNC Bank, Gold Coast Production Management, Nobil Food Services and Longport Media/ WMGM 103.7; at the “Horseshoe Crab” level by Atlantic City Electric, Fairthorne Bed & Breakfast, Exit Zero, Good Housekeeping, Cape May Magazine/CapeMay.com, DeSatnick Realty and Sunset Liquors; and at the “Hermit Crab” level by the Chamber of Commerce of Greater Cape May and Cape Investment Management.
