COURT HOUSE – Teens have an opportunity to learn how to play the didgeridoo at several county libraries that are offering “Didgeridoo Down Under,” a free teen music workshop Aug. 5-6.
Learn to play the didgeridoo with the didgeridoo-percussion musical trio “Didg Revolution.”
The didgeridoo is an Australian Aboriginal area phone woodwind instrument that looks and sounds as exotic as its name.
Essentially a hollowed-out tree branch, the didgeridoo, otherwise known as a “didg,” is among the world’s oldest instruments.
It produces a dynamic range pf otherworldly sounds and tones.
During the workshop, teens will:
• Learn how to use beginner PVC didgeridoos
• Learn how to drone and use sound variations such as tonguing, vocalization and animal calls
• Learn fundamental concepts of circular breathing
• Learn various types of didgeridoo music from around the world
• Partake in an uplifting music and dance session
• Learn Australian and Aboriginal culture.
Workshops will be given at the Upper Township Library Aug. 5 at 2 p.m., Court House Library Aug. 5 at 6 p.m. and at the Lower Township Library Aug. 6 at 6 p.m.
The event is free and open to all teens ages 12-18.
Space is limited for each event, so call (609) 463-6350 to sign up.
