CAPE MAY- Cape May Stage, Cape Mays premier professional Equity theatre, with the generous support of the PNC Foundation that provides funding for the PNC Arts Alive initiative, is inviting the public to get a behind-the-scenes look at the magic behind the curtain of the hit production God of Carnage. Cape May Stage is offering Coffee and Conversation: a thematic seminar that explores finding the metaphor for directing. Free coffee and pastries will be served during Coffee and Conversation on Sat. July 28, 2012 from 5:30 – 6:30 p.m. at the Robert Shackleton Playhouse on Bank and Lafayette Streets.
This event, hosted by artistic director Roy Steinberg, and featuring the cast of God of Carnage, is the first of many PNC Arts Alive Meet Your Seat audience enrichment events scheduled at the theatre this season.
Coffee and Conversation provides a window into both the rehearsal and performance process, and it is only through these events that audiences can fully explore what goes into creating a theatrical work of art, said Steinberg, Cape May Stage artistic director. I chose the theme of finding a metaphor for directing because it affects every department (set design, costume design, sound design, acting choices, directorial choices, etc.). With PNCs support, we can provide opportunities for both new and seasoned patrons to participate in this creative process. For example, in a play such as God of Carnage, you can learn the secrets of stage vomiting, as well as find out how the audiences favorite moments came to be.
The PNC Foundation has a long history of providing grants to non-profit organizations that strengthen and enrich the lives of our neighbors, said Bill Mills, regional president of PNC for Philadelphia and Southern New Jersey. We understand the valuable return that investing in the arts can deliver. Today more than ever, the businesses we attract, the jobs we create and the visitors who extend their stay are drawn by what the Greater Philadelphia and Southern New Jersey region has to offer.
PNC Financial Services Group is the presenting sponsor of Cape May Stages Meet Your Seat programming. The support is part of PNC Arts Alive, a five-year, $5 million investment from The PNC Foundation to help area residents gain access to the arts, and help arts organizations expand and engage audiences. Only twenty-five arts organizations in 2012 in the Philadelphia and Southern New Jersey region were selected for bold thinking around increasing arts access and engagement and Cape May Stage was one. Coffee and Conversation will take place on Sa., July 28 from 5:30-6:30p.m at the Robert Shackleton Playhouse located at the corner of Bank & Lafayette Streets in downtown Cape May. Advance reservations are not required. There is a suggested donation of $10 or pay whatever you wish to attend.
