BRIDGETON – The Lower Cape May Regional and Bridgeton High School softball teams combined for 66 runs in a recent slugfest in Bridgeton.
Both teams went into the game with 2-7 records, before the Lady Tigers upped their record to 3-7 by scoring 40 runs to Bridgeton’s 26.
According to an NJ Advance Media article, LCMR’s Taylor Stietler and Bailey Leninger drove in six runs apiece. Stietler was 5-for-6 with a double and a triple. Leninger was 5-for-8 with a home run.
The April 29 game, as reported by NJ Advance media, had seven lead changes, 38 hits, 5 errors and 31 walks. LCMR had its 40 runs on 22 hits. Bridgeton scored 26 runs on 16 hits.
In the third inning, Bridgeton opened an 18-10 lead after scoring 11 runs. The Lady Tigers followed with their own rally in the fourth inning, scoring six, then taking the lead with 14 runs in the fifth and 10 runs in the sixth.
According to the article, the teams met previously on April 4, with LCMR winning 33-23. The teams have now combined for 122 runs in two games.
Isabella Arbelo Miranda, Raegan Notch and Abigail Pelicano had three hits each for the Lady Tigers. Notch, Miranda and Ivy Smith drove in five runs each; Pelicano drove in four.
The article said Lower Cape May has scored 94 runs in its three wins. They have 23 runs in their seven losses.
