Jay’s on Third: “Still Here in Our 17th Year”

The front of Jay’s on Third on 9836 3rd Ave in Stone Harbor.

From Jamie Marlino, Manager at Jay's on Third

Readers may have been surprised after a profile on a new Stone Harbor business noted that Jay’s on Third, “a takeout spot,” had closed. But take note, reader, the flagship Jay’s on Third location is still open for its 17th year. We are proud to be a long-established restaurant on 7 Mile Island and we aren’t going anywhere. The article was referring to our temporary Jay’s On The Go location on 96th St, not our main restaurant a few blocks away on the corner of 99th and 3rd.

In 2020, we adapted to the challenges of COVID by offering our menu in take-out form. The response from our loyal community was so strong that we were able to open a strictly to-go location to accommodate the volume and provide an alternative to in-person dining. As dining restrictions eased, we no longer needed two locations and resumed full-time dining service at our main restaurant while accommodating limited takeout.

Chef Jason Hippen and General Manager Anne Fitzsimons opened Jay’s in 2007 and are still the current owner-operators. Things may look a little different in the front of house. Earlier this year, Anne discovered a neuroendocrine tumor that needed immediate treatment. She has transitioned to a behind-the-scenes role while she recovers (she’s doing great!) and hospitality veteran, Jamie Merlino, stepped in as General Manager to lead the front of house. Chef Jay remains in the kitchen every night cooking favorite dishes such as sticky ribs and pad Thai while featuring several specials showcasing his honed technique and creativity. Chef Jay is joined by our longstanding kitchen team, lead by Chef Iris who was with us since the start.

We are known for our locally sourced, creative, and beautifully composed dishes. We are open through November and you can make a reservation on Resy or by giving us a call at 609-368-1000. We look forward to welcoming you.
