Indictments Filed June 10

Readers are reminded that not only are all individuals listed below presumed innocent unless proven guilty, there may also be multiple individuals who share the same name, even in the same town.

COURT HOUSE – A Cape May County grand jury handed up 14 indictments June 10. 

The abbreviation CDS below stands for controlled dangerous substance.  A “certain person” charge can be brought against individuals whose previous convictions bar them from having weapons. 

Joshua Ciabatoni faces a four-count indictment for burglary, theft and aggravated assault, each count in the third degree, along with obstructing the administration of law in the fourth degree.

Gage M. Clifton was indicted for unlawful possession of a weapon in the third degree. The weapon was a spring pistol.

Ernest McCarraher was named in a three-count indictment for making terroristic threats to kill another person and being in possession of a weapon for unlawful purpose, both counts in the third degree. The indictment also contained a fourth-degree count for unlawful possession of a weapon, a kitchen knife.

Jamar H. Jackson faces a second-degree count for endangering the welfare of a child.

James A. Shivers was named in a seven-count indictment, for third-degree possession of a CDS, methamphetamine, two counts of unlawful possession of a weapon in the third degree and three counts of unlawful possession in the fourth degree. The final count in the indictment was for fourth-degree hindering apprehension. The weapons giving rise to the indictment were two shotguns, two machetes and a silver-handled knife.

James A. Cox was indicted on two counts of fourth-degree possession of prohibited weapons, metal knuckles and a dagger, along with a third-degree count for possession of a CDS, heroin.

Syeir A. Bennett faces two third-degree counts, for uttering a false instrument and attempted theft.

Zachary Ziegler was indicted for first-degree aggravated sexual assault on a victim under the age of 13, along with second-degree endangering the welfare of a child.

Elijah C. Williams, Isaiah Ortiz, Manuel Ortiz, William Jewell and Maliky A. Reyes were jointly named in an indictment in which each of them faces second-degree counts for aggravated assault and conspiracy to commit assault.

Tahiem Howell faces an eight-count indictment, with a second-degree count for possession of a CDS with intent to distribute cocaine, two counts of possession of a CDS, cocaine and fentanyl, two third-degree counts for possession with intent, one being within a 1,000 feet of a school, a fourth-degree count for intent to distribute drug paraphernalia and two second-degree counts for endangering the welfare of a child.

William Lombardi was indicted on two counts of third-degree possession of a CDS, cocaine and fentanyl.

Matthew C. Scheerer was indicted on a fourth-degree count for shoplifting in Middle Township.

Ryne T. Samler was named in a two-count indictment, for third-degree possession of a CDS, fentanyl, along with fourth-degree certain person. Samler was convicted of burglary in Ocean County in 2013 and was in possession of two folding knives.

Charles F. Omrod, Andrew P. Ferguson and Richard J. Riehl were named in a seven-count indictment. Only one count, for third-degree possession of a CDS, oxycodone, lists all three individuals. All other counts apply only to Omrod and are for third-degree possession of a CDS, methamphetamine, two third-degree counts for possession of a CDS with intent to distribute, one third-degree count for possession of a prescription legend drug, one third-degree count for money laundering and one fourth-degree count for possession with intent to distribute drug paraphernalia.
