When Mike and Tara Mogan launched e-Beach Wagon in 2020, their goal wasn’t to create the best electric beach cart on the market — at least not at first. They just wanted to get to Higbee Beach in Cape May without breaking their backs.
“There’s a 200-yard sand trail that we would walk with our dog and manual pull cart,” Mike says. “It took a lot of effort, patience, and strength. Once we had kids, the amount of gear quadrupled. I was done with being the family beach mule. We needed a better solution.”
That personal problem led to a big idea — and the creation of a motorized wagon designed to tackle all types of sand, heavy loads, and long summer days. Now, five years and countless beach trips later, the couple is on the verge of launching their second-generation wagon: a longer-lasting, lighter, more powerful, and durable version of their flagship product.

“We’ve lived and breathed this,” says Mike, a civil engineer who grew up visiting Wildwood Crest as a kid and now has a seasonal home in North Cape May.
Built to carry up to 300 pounds effortlessly over sand, the e-Beach Wagon is designed for beachgoers who are tired of dragging coolers, umbrellas, chairs, and toys over the dunes. It features an electric motor powered by a thumb throttle on the handle, tall removable railings, built-in umbrella holders, USB charging ports, and attachments for a variety of items, including surfboards, beach chairs, and fishing rods. It’s a 4-in-1 convertible design that easily transforms from a wagon to a table, bench, and utility cart.
“You don’t have to say, ‘I don’t feel like bringing this, it’s too heavy,’” Mike says. “It’s a freeing feeling.”
Unlike competitors based in California and Florida, e-Beach Wagon is the only locally owned company of its kind in the region. That matters when it comes to service. “If something needs repair, there’s someone local to help,” Mike says. “Plus, we keep replacement parts and batteries in stock — everything is aluminum and marine-grade stainless steel, and it’s built to last.”

The second-generation model reflects years of user feedback and engineering refinement. It features a 48V, 30Ah lithium-iron-phosphate battery — lighter and capable of 25 miles per charge (the longest on the market) — along with a smart controller that offers five speed settings, regulates speed going downhill, and improves weight distribution. It’s also 21 pounds lighter than the original and eliminates the maintenance-prone chain drive.
“Technology has improved, and we’ve made sure to evolve with it,” Mike says. “Every component can be replaced, so your wagon can last a lifetime.”
Mike and Tara started e-Beach Wagon at the height of the COVID pandemic, facing skyrocketing shipping costs and global supply chain delays. “But we kept grinding,” says Mike. “It takes tenacity and a fearless mindset to be a business owner.”

Mike has worked in highway design for over 20 years and oversees product development and logistics for the company. He works with firms like Gembah and Spline Product Development to bring his vision to life. “I wanted certain features I couldn’t find anywhere else— built-in pole holders, removable wagon bed, an easy-to-clean design,” he said.
Tara, a lifelong marketer and Mike’s wife, handles the brand, strategy, and customer experience. “Marketing drives sales,” Mike says. “She’s the one who gets the phone to ring.”
Together, they’ve built the company from scratch. They are self-funded, self-managed, and totally hands-on. Their commitment is evident in their service model: e-Beach Wagon is Google’s #1 top-rated electric beach wagon, boasting genuine, local reviews and a one-year warranty, one of the best in the industry.
For those who don’t want to commit to buying just yet, rental options are available through Surf Buggy Centers, which deliver the wagon to your vacation rental and pick it up at the end of the week. And while families are their core customer base, e-Beach Wagon has also become a fan favorite for retirees, campers, and consumers with mobility challenges.
“Everyone should be able to enjoy the beach without the struggle,” Mike says. “That’s why we created e-Beach Wagon—to simplify your beach trek and open the experience to all.”
