HENRY, ROGER LEWIS
Roger Lewis Henry, 85, entered into eternal rest Thursday, March 6 at Cooper Cape Regional Medical Center, Cape May Court House.
Born October 7, 1939 in Reading PA, he was the son of the late Lewis S. and Imogene M. (Kramer) Henry.
Roger led a full life and will forever be remembered for his gift of teaching; impacting everyone he encountered. His teaching career began in 1973 at Garden Spot HS as the metal shop teacher until 1984. Following his career at Garden Spot, he worked as a training consultant at GPU Energy as well as working as a part-time professor between Reading Area Community College, Penn State Berks and Penn State Lehigh Valley Campuses.
His many hobbies included a love of cooking, a passion for live music, and a gift for creating beautiful wood/cork projects in his garage, often shared with family and friends.
Roger loved being outside in nature, hiking the Schuylkill River and Appalachian Trails, as well as the beaches of Cape May, Cape Hatteras and Barbados. Throughout his life, Roger volunteered his time and talents to Big Brothers, Berks Arts Council, and Cape May MAC (Museum, Arts, Culture). He contributed countless hours to various opportunities at MAC but one of his most rewarding was adding a glossy finish to the brass bells and hand rails on the trolleys.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his beloved daughter DeAnn L. Powers and the mother of his daughters Terry Henry.
Roger will forever be missed by his daughter JoAnn VanDixon and her husband Stephen; grandchildren Brittany Ellis and her husband James, Michael Powers, Caitlyn Powers, Amanda Wolf and her husband Kyle and Christopher VanDixon and his wife Jessica; great-grandchildren Piper and Robin Ellis and Ronan Wolf; brother Michael Henry; sister Susan Tucci; and many nieces and nephews.
