HAND, JANE
Jane Hand, a beloved wife, mother. grandmother, great-grandmother, and dedicated businesswoman, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, March 25, 2025 at the age of 98. Born on January 19, 1927 in Wildwood, NJ, Jane was a force of nature whose unwavering commitment to her family and community left an indelible mark on all who knew her.
In 1968, alongside her husband, the late John William “Jack” Hand, Jane purchased the Windsor Hotel in Cape May, NJ, which they owned until 1974. Following this, they acquired the Surf Motel & Apartments at 211 Beach Ave, Cape May, NJ, and the property at 7 1st Ave. Through numerous renovations and improvements, they transformed these establishments into cherished vacation spots, welcoming guests from near and far.
Jane's legacy is carried forward by her loving family: children the late John William Hand 3rd, daughter Jayne Hand Sudell (Charles “Guy” Sudell), Cape May Court House, son William Hand, Stone Harbor, NJ, son Mitchell Hand, Cape May Court House; grandchildren Laurie Sudell-Vizzard (Jack), Avalon, NJ, Kathleen “Katy” Sudell-Ball (Daniel), Middle Township, NJ, Paul Sudell (Natalie Sudell-D'Oria), Cape May, NJ, Melanie Sudell, Philadelphia, PA, Brandon Hand (Chesse Hand-Hall), Cape May Court House, Trevor Hand, Conshohocken, PA, Kaitlyn Hand, Cape May Court House, Nicole Hand-Tuttle (Alex), Millville, NJ, Natalie Hand, Palm Beach, FL, and Jared Hand, Cape May Court House; great-grandchildren Clare, James and Flynn Vizzard, Korson and Kyle Ball, Ava, Vivianna and Adrianna Sudell, Bowen and Tatum Hand, and Jaxon and Rylie Tuttle.
Jane's life was a testament to dedication, love, and community spirit. Her legacy will continue to inspire all who had the privilege of knowing her.
A memorial service to celebrate Jane's life will be held on Monday, March 31, 2025 at 11:00 a.m. at the Radzieta Funeral Home, 9 Hand Avenue, Cape May Court House, NJ, where visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m. Interment will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Cape May. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 6704, Hagerstown, MD 21741, in memory of Jane and Jack, both of whom had cancer.
