NEVINS,
MARGARET ANN
Margaret Ann “Peg” Nevins, 96, of Cape May Court House, passed away peacefully in her sleep, prayer and love shared with her as she made her journey home to Heaven.
Peg was predeceased by her “kind and caring” parents James and Margaret Murphy, her loving husband William “Bill” Nevins, her precious daughter Kathleen “Kathy” James, her dear brother John (“Grace”) Murphy and cherished sister Catherine (Louis) Kurzejewski. She was also preceded in death by her nephew-in-law, Phil Aromando, and niece-in-law, Debbie Kurzejewski.
She is survived by her son-in-law Richard James, her grandson Craig (Megan) James and her great-grandsons Boden and Coleten; her grandson Erik James and great-granddaughter Alexa. Peg is also lovingly remembered by her nieces Marie Murphy, Patricia Murphy Walker and Marguerite (Phil) Aromando; her nephew, John Kurzejewski; and niece, Mary (Gordon)Milliken.
Peg was born in Long Branch, NJ, and baptized at St. James Church in Red Bank. Peg attended Long Branch Schools and graduated from high school before continuing her education at the Packard School in New York City. Her professional life included a long and dedicated career in various legal and administrative roles. She and Bill were married at St. James Episcopal Church in Long Branch and began their life together while he served in the United States Navy. Their journey took them to many places–from barracks at Fort Monmouth to several counties across the state–until they settled in Cape May County to raise their daughter, Kathy. Peg supported Bill's career as a New Jersey Game Warden while building her own professional path, working for Judge Francis and later at Judge Cafiero's Law Office. She also spent time at Sturdy Bank, continuing her legacy of hard work.
A woman of deep faith, Peg was a devoted member of St. Simeon's by-the-Sea Episcopal Church in North Wildwood. She was active in the Adult Guild for many years and was elected to the Women of Episcopal Church Women's Group in 2014. As a proud member of the Daughters of the King, her faith never wavered. She continued to be firm in her faith until the moment she went home to be with the Lord. She often said, “It's okay if I don't have a rosaryI already and always have Jesus in my heart.” If ever without a rosary she would share “it is ok as I already and always have Jesus in my heart.”
Peg found joy in the simple pleasures of lifeshe loved sunny days at the beach, strolls through the zoo, and indulging in pizza and ice cream. She was a passionate football fan, especially when it came to Navy vs. Army games, and she cherished the comfort of diners serving hearty, homestyle meals. Holidays and cozy family dinners, especially those with grilled cheese and familiar faces, brought her deep happiness.
In her earlier years, Peg took pride in hosting Easter dinners, where her sweet potato casserole was always a favorite. Faith played a central role in her life, and she could often be found reading her Daily Bread devotionals, drawing strength and comfort from their words.
Later in life, Peg embraced her role as the unofficial “Activities Volunteer” at her residence, staying active, walking countless steps, and always lending a hand to others. She had a spirit for adventure and was always up for a day trip, no matter how spontaneous.
We are forever grateful to the loved ones who ensured Peg had the best quality of life over her final five years. She was deeply cherished by her caregivers, recreation and activities therapists, nursing and social work team at Autumn Lake Healthcare and with Red Oak Hospice. They experienced her determination, strong will, and unwavering personality.
Above all, Peg's heart was fullest when surrounded by family. She treasured her role as “Mom-Mom,” taking immense pride in the accomplishments of her grand and great-grandchildren. Her legacy of love, resilience, and warmth lives on in all of us who were lucky enough to be loved by her.
Funeral Service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 31, 2025, at Cape May County Veterans Cemetery Chapel, 127 Crest Haven Road, Cape May Court House, NJ. Interment will immediately follow at the Cape May County Veterans Cemetery. Condolences at www.radzieta.com
