Rev. Robert Hinchman Fox, 74, of Cape May Court House, NJ, passed away on October 2, 2025. He was born on March 22, 1951, in Philadelphia to the late S. Cooper and Palmira Fox.
Robert was a shining light in the lives of all who had the privilege of knowing him. His journey on this earth was one marked by love, compassion, and unwavering faith in God. His passing has left a void in the hearts of his family, friends, and many more whose lives were touched by him.
Robert was a people person. He loved talking on the phone and visiting with people. He enjoyed hymn sings and would always be the first one to start singing whether in person or on the phone. His joyful singing often lifted the spirits of everyone present, turning ordinary moments into cherished memories.
Robert is survived by his loving wife, Loretta (formerly Cross), whom he met while students at Philadelphia College of Bible; his sons: Joshua and his wife, Andrea; Michael and his wife, Aplelyn; and Jonathan Fox, as well as his cherished grandchildren, Vanessa and Tyler Fox; also by his brothers, David (Carole), Jonathan (Michelle), and Stephen (Laurie), and sister Jeanne Fox (Steve DeMicco), and nephews David and Stephen, and nieces Amanda and Rebecca. He also leaves behind a host of beloved Fox and Ungerbuehler cousins, as well as two uncles, Roland and Richard Ungerbuehler, who adored him dearly.
Robert attended school in the Maple Shade School District before graduating Merchantville High School in 1969, where he was an athlete (football and track), in the band (tuba and Sousaphone), chorus and multiple plays – most famously in “Guys & Dolls” where he was the lead “Nathan Detroit.” Robert was voted “Class Musician.”
He continued his education, earning an Associate's Degree in Arts from Camden County College in 1971 and a Bachelor of Arts in History from Rutgers University in 1973. He then decided to live his life by spreading God's mission of love and hope, so he studied and achieved his Bachelor of Science in Bible in 1975 from Philadelphia College of the Bible. Robert was proudly ordained in 1980 and lastly earned his Social Work Certification in 1994.
Robert's faith and devotion to helping others began as Director at the Camden Rescue Mission from 1975 to 1976. He then served as Youth Director from 1976 to 1979 at First Baptist Church of Woodbury, NJ. He was then Pastor of Rio Grande Bible Church from 1979 to 1983.
His journey in faith then led him to Wilton Manors, FL, at First Christian Church, where he served from 1983 to 1985 as Minister of Education.
After moving back to New Jersey, Robert served as Youth Pastor at Mt. Ephraim Baptist Church, then as Pastor at Lenola Bible Church in Moorestown, Medford Farms Baptist Church, and then returned to Rio Grande Bible Church (1989-1993), West Wildwood Church; Youth Pastor at First Baptist Church of Cape May Court House (1998 to 2000). He served 7 years as Camp Pastor at Haluwasa Christian Camp in Hammonton, NJ.
From 1990 to 2004, Robert also served as a Counselor and Case Manager for Cape Counseling Services. Then, he was a Behavioral Modification Program Technician at the Woodbine Development Center until his retirement in 2016. At the same time, he was at the Center, Rev. Fox served as Pastor at Immanuel Baptist Church in Goshen for 14 years until retiring in 2020. Robert remained as an active member of First United Methodist Church in Cape May Court House.
Those who knew Robert will remember him for his optimism, joyful spirit, and his deep-rooted faith in Jesus, as well as his unwavering commitment to spreading love and kindness to everyone he encountered. He had a rare gift for making others smile and laugh, leaving a lasting impact on all who crossed his path.
