Another week of crazy weather made for fewer opportunities for captains to get their boats away from the local docks. Still, though, when the window of opportunity opened, some pounced on it. Others fished from land-based areas like rock piles and bridges and were able to catch some fish. Let’s check out what happened.

Mike, at Sea Isle Bait and Tackle, reported that Adam stopped in on Sunday morning to report that his morning of fishing resulted in a 17-inch blackfish and a bonus-tag striper. Those are nice results for a morning of fishing. Fishing was good on Sunday, as three other anglers stopped in with their blackfish. Paulie, with a 2.85-pound keeper, was joined by Peter (2.51) and Pierce (2.08). They commented that tog fishing was really good during the afternoon.
The patrons of the Starfish had a good day of fishing on Sunday morning. Some quality fish were caught, along with a few limits scattered around the boat. The steady fishing allowed all aboard to go home with fresh filets. The mixed bag for the day included porgies, bluefish, triggerfish and blackfish.
I’d like to say thanks to Cameron, at Boulevard Bait and Tackle, for his contributions of reports and pictures to the column. It was another good season with plenty of big, late-season flounder, sheepshead, cobia and stripers as well as other species that were caught locally. Recently, Cameron closed the store for the season. Thanks again, and enjoy some well-deserved down time.
The Sailor’s Delight fished for blackfish over the weekend, and the anglers found the fishing to be challenging. Fish were caught, but the water, stirred up by the winds of previous days, was very dirty. The captains will watch the weather and look for the next opportunity to get on the water.
The Starlight Fleet, with both the Starlight and the Atlantic Star on the water, had good 12- and 10-hour trips respectively.
The Starlight, with Captain Ernie, was able to return to the dock two hours early as the anglers were able to register their boat limit of sea bass.
Captain Paul, at the wheel of the Atlantic Star, put those aboard on a mixed bag of sea bass, which resulted in limits around the boat, porgies and bluefish.
Captain Chuck, with the Sea Star III, reported that they were only able to get out on the weekend. The conditions earlier in the week just weren’t conducive to spending time on the water. As the situation improved, the crew was able to do some weekend fishing. The patrons were able to land some sea bass and blackfish, which had them looking ahead to the following week with thoughts of good fishing.
Captain Bob, from Full Ahead Sport Fishing, reported that a recent charter was able to achieve their boat limit of sea bass. For some variety, they also caught six triggerfish, some bluefish and a load of porgies.
Thanks go to Tom Schad, who sent in two pictures and a report from a trip, on Sunday, aboard the Fin Advisor out of Sea Isle. The bounty consisted of sea bass, bluefish and porgies.
Hopefully, this will be the week when we can catch a break with the weather. We’ve all had enough wind, rain and the resulting muddy weather that make for less than ideal fishing. If you find a good window to fish, consider yourself among the lucky. Good luck if you do get out, take care, and I’ll see you around.
