VILLAS – No one was home when a fire broke out at a Redwood Avenue house on Tuesday, Oct. 1, but first responders were able to rescue the family pets.
Villas Volunteer Fire Company firefighters, responding to a call of a house fire that came in about 1:40 p.m., found heavy flames coming from the second floor of the two-story house. According to a press release issued by the fire company, firefighters determined that fire on an outside deck had spread into the attic.
The fire was immediately upgraded to a dwelling fire, and a first-alarm assignment was added, meaning assistance was requested from the Town Bank, Erma and Green Creek volunteer fire companies.
No one was injured and all of the pets inside the home were rescued by fire crews. The number and kind of pets was not specified. The Red Cross arrived to help the residents.
Crews stayed on the scene for about three hours. Paramedics from AtlantiCare EMS and Middle Township also assisted at the scene.
The Cape May County Fire Marshal’s Office, fire investigators from the Lower Township Police Department and firefighters are investigating the cause of the fire.
