MARMORA – No one was home when firefighters discovered a “well-involved fire” after being called to a Marmora residence Sunday afternoon, Dec. 22.

According to information posted on the Marmora Volunteer Fire Company Facebook page, a fire call came in Sunday at around 4:40 p.m. reporting a structure fire on West Quail Drive. Marmora was dispatched along with Seaville Fire and Rescue, Tuckahoe Volunteer Fire Company and the Upper Township Division of EMS.

Firefighters found a porch fire extending into the first and second floors of the home. A working fire dispatch was requested, bringing Ocean City Engine 3 to the scene and covering Upper Township fire stations with the Somers Point Fire Department, Ocean View Fire Company and Dorothy Fire Company.

Firefighters quickly were able to stretch two hose lines, with one knocking down the exterior fire while the second line crew simultaneously entered the structure and extinguished the interior blaze. Searches of all floors and the basement determined there were no occupants at the time of the fire.

The fire was considered under control at 4:59 p.m. There were no reported injuries to firefighters or civilians.

The blaze is under investigation by the Cape May County Fire Marshal’s Office and the State Police.
