The Marmora Volunteer Fire Company and New Jersey State Police responded to a fiery crash on the Garden State Parkway Sunday, Oct. 22.

NJSP Detective I Jeffrey Lebron said state troopers responded to a motor vehicle accident at 9:06 p.m. Oct. 22. He said an Audi passenger vehicle was traveling north on the GSP when it left the roadway at milepost 25.8. Lebron said the vehicle struck a tree and caught fire. The driver, a 41-year-old Easton, Pennsylvania, man, sustained minor injuries.

According to the Marmora Volunteer Fire Company’s Facebook page, the fire company and the Upper Township Division of EMS were dispatched by Ocean City Police Communications to the reported car fire on the GSP. When firefighters arrived they found the Audi crashed into the trees and on fire. The sole occupant of the vehicle had removed himself prior to firefighters’ arrival.

Firefighters remained on the scene for about an hour.

Lebron said the driver was issued multiple traffic citations. The accident remains under investigation.
