EDWARDS, RITA CAROL
It is with great sadness that we share the passing of our beloved mother, Rita Carol Mitchell Fletcher Edwards who went to join the angels in heaven on Tuesday, November 26, 2024 at the age of eighty-seven. Mother was a person whom cherished every moment in life, both with her friends and with her family.
Rita was born at St Agnes hospital on August 6, 1937 of Philadelphia Pennsylvania. She later moved to Cape May, New Jersey in 1971, where she spent most of her life. She was graduate of Hallahan High School, which still today shares memories with surviving classmates. Mother was a dedicated employee with the State of New Jersey Department of Labor for many years. Mother enjoyed family gatherings barbecue's, bingo, cards, casinos and hosting multiple penny parties and events. She was a board member of multiple senior citizen clubs of North Cape May and Myrtle Beach, South Carolina Where she resided since August of 2023.
She was preceded by her husband, Robert Edwards, her mother Rita Nelson, her father Edward Mitchell, her aunt Barbara Mink, her brothers Edward Mitchell and Nils Nelson and her sister Bernadette Mitchell.
Rita is survived by a large and loving family, all who will forever cherish her memory. Survivors include her immediate family members, her brother Nicholas Nelson her son Gregory Fletcher (Marie), her daughter Marylou McCarraher, her daughter Nadine Fletcher, her son Edward Fletcher (Renee), her step-children Stephen Edwards (Linda) and Robert Edwards, her grandchildren, Albert McCarraher, Gregory Sean Fletcher, Nicholas McCarraher, Bruno Prestos, Edward Fletcher (Ramey), and Ryan Fletcher (Katy). Also surviving are her many great grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren which she dearly loved and will be missed by all. May she rest in heaven with her family until we meet again.
As a devoted Catholic, her services will be determined later and held in Cape May, New Jersey, at a later date. Following services, she will be laid to rest in burial at Holy Cross Cemetery in Yeadon, Pennsylvania.
