“Eat What You Grow” with a Workshop Series in Court House

What: Learn about local crops and healthy living with a multi-week class

When: Classes start Jan. 22 and run through October

Where: 355 Court House – South Dennis Road, Court House

Rutgers Cooperative Extension (RCE) of Cape May County Family & Community Health Sciences and Agriculture & Natural Resources Departments will present the workshop series, Eat What You Grow 2025. This series will consist of four seasonal sessions offered in both the evening and daytime in January, April, June, and October 2025.

The presenters will be RCE of Cape May County’s Anneliese Kuemmerle, MS, RDN, FCHS Program Associate II and Jen Sawyer Caraballo, ANR Program Associate II, “We are excited to partner, to offer the Eat What You Grow 2025 series that promotes healthy living and teaches how to grow healthy food at home,” said Sawyer Caraballo.

The classes focus on seasonal vegetables and fruits, giving participants nutritional information and preparation ideas while teaching about growing tasty produce in a home garden. Some topics to be discussed in this series include garden planning, planning a garden-friendly pantry, health benefits of gardening, seed starting, preserving spring harvest, quick and easy balanced summer meals, cool season crops, and a healthy twist on seasonal harvest foods.

The Winter session will take place on January 22 from 6:30 to 8 p.m. and on January 23 from 1 to 2:30 p.m. The Spring session will be on April 9 from 6:30 to 8 p.m. and on April 17 from 1 to 2:30 p.m. The Summer session will be held on June 11 from 6:30 to 8 p.m. and on June 12 from 1 to 2:30 p.m. The Fall session is scheduled for October 15 from 6:30 to 8 p.m. and on October 16 from 1 to 2:30 p.m.

All classes will be held at Rutgers Cooperative Extension of Cape May County located at 355 Court House – South Dennis Road, Court House. The public is invited to sign up for individual classes at $10 per class or for all four classes at a discount rate of $32. To register for all four sessions, go to https://go.rutgers.edu/ja6sek6b.

The January program, Eat What You Grow: Winter Session will cover the topics garden planning, herbs, perennial fruits and vegetables, eating seasonally, health benefits, garden friendly pantry, and cultivating flavor profiles.
