CAPE MAY – Cape May City Council passed a resolution Wednesday, Nov. 8, authorizing the East Lynne Theater Company to name the theater the company will operate within the Allen African Methodist Episcopal Church. The historic church is being renovated following a fire, and permission has already been granted to the East Lynne Theater Company to operate a theater within the renovated church building.

The church will remain a historic building open to the public but it will also play host as the new home of the theater company.

The resolution amends the company’s lease agreement with the city to provide East Lynne’s right to name the theater at the church and to use that name in appropriate signage. Any name must include reference to “The Allen A.M.E. Church.” The name will be subject to the approval of the city and the Historic Preservation Commission.
