MARMORA – A Monday morning accident sent a woman to the hospital after the vehicle she was driving left the roadway and struck a tree, authorities said.

Police and fire/rescue personnel responded to the accident just before 7 a.m. May 6. Emergency personnel, including the Marmora Volunteer Fire Company and the Upper Township Division of EMS, had been dispatched for a reported motor vehicle crash on South Old Tuckahoe Road.

Mayor and Fire Chief Jay Newman said the accident occurred near the dividing line between North and South Tuckahoe Road.

Upon arrival, firefighters found a small Dodge pickup truck that had crashed into a tree, with the driver trapped in the vehicle. Due to the entrapment, additional units from Seaville Fire and Rescue and Tuckahoe Volunteer Fire Company were requested.

“That is standard procedure when we receive the report of an accident with an entrapment,” Newman said.

The driver, who was not identified, was extricated and transported to AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center-Atlantic City. The cause of the crash is under investigation by the State Police. There were no injuries to firefighters or EMS personnel; all units were cleared by 7:30 a.m.
