CAPE MAY – A 25-year-old Blackwood man was arrested in the city on Wednesday, July 31, for eluding police after allegedly being involved in a hit-and-run with a pedestrian.

Brandan L. Rollans was arrested after an investigation that began at approximately 11:45 a.m. when an officer noticed a Chevrolet Impala in the area of Lafayette Street and Sidney Avenue with extensive damage to the windshield and other damage to the rear of the vehicle, Police Chief Dekon W. Fashaw Sr. said.

A motor vehicle stop was attempted, but the driver, identified as Rollans, refused to stop. He eventually abandoned the vehicle in the intersection of Beach Avenue and Ocean Street. He was located and taken into custody.

The investigation revealed that prior to arriving in Cape May, Rollans was involved in a crash with a pedestrian in Blackwood and left the scene, Fashaw said. The pedestrian sustained non-life-threatening injuries.

Rollans was charged with two counts of second-degree eluding, two counts of third-degree hindering apprehension, third-degree resisting arrest by force, fourth-degree unlawful possession of a weapon, fourth-degree resisting arrest by flight and various motor vehicle offenses. He was being held in the Cape May County Correctional Center.

Anyone with additional information is asked to call 609-884-9500 to speak with the Police Department’s Detective Division.
