Dirty Politics Comes to Upper Republican Primary

By Jack Reemmer, Seaville

To the Editor:

If there was any doubt who to vote for in the upcoming primary for Township Committee, it quickly disappeared after receiving the Cape May County Regular Republican Organization’s recent flyer, “Newman & Emberger-Hayes Negotiated With Offshore Wind Corporation, Orsted.” I found it grossly misleading, baseless, irresponsible and a downright insult to the loyal Republican voters of our township and the honorable incumbent candidates, not to mention a disservice to the residents of Upper Township.

It cites a Press of Atlantic City 11/1/23 article (?) allegedly reporting that Mayor Newman and Deputy Mayor Hayes “were cozying up to Orsted…trying to get money out of Orsted…trying to get a payoff [sic] out of Orsted…selling out Upper Twp…as part of a secret deal… .” If the Palombo-Palombo committee can support that claim, it should have been reported to appropriate authorities. In the absence of any such corroboration, a retraction and apology would be the honorable thing to do. My support goes to the real Republicans for Upper Township, Newman and Hayes.
