Route 47 is scheduled to have daytime lane closures this week as the Route 47, 109 & 147 Pavement Preservation project begins in Cape May County.
From 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. tomorrow, Wednesday, May 1, and again on Thursday, May 2 at the same times, lane closures are scheduled on Route 47 in both directions between Old Rio Grand Boulevard in Lower Township and mile post 2.5 in Middle Township. The closures are necessary to mill and pave the roadway. At least one lane of traffic will be maintained in both directions.
The $6.5 million federally funded Route 47, 109 & 147 Pavement Preservation project will resurface approximately three miles of Route 47 between West Rio Grande Boulevard in Lower Township and Hawthorne Drive in Middle Township; approximately two miles of Route 109 between Yacht Avenue in Cape May City and Route 9 in Lower Township; and approximately four miles of Route 147 between Route 9 in Middle Township and New York Avenue in North Wildwood City. Paving work is expected to begin in late April or early May and take approximately one month to complete all three roadways.
The precise timing of the work is subject to change due to weather or other factors.
