WILDWOOD CREST – A Wildwood Crest Police Department K-9 named “Quest” earned his doggie treats, again, locating narcotics related to a motor vehicle stop in the borough.
The Police Department issued a press release saying Quest was used at a traffic stop on Friday, Aug. 16, at about 3:10 a.m. in the area of Denver Road and Atlantic Avenue. Officer Tyler Lavender, Quest’s handler, developed reasonable suspicion of criminal activity and deployed the dog around the vehicle’s exterior. Quest, according to the report, provided a positive indication for the presence of narcotics.
A search of the vehicle resulted in the seizure of distribution amounts of suspected cocaine, Xanax, and ecstasy, as well as drug paraphernalia and an amount of cash believed to be the proceeds of illegal narcotics sales.
Police arrested Matthew Monroe, 38, of Philadelphia, and charged him with three counts of second-degree possession of a CDS with the intent to distribute within 500 feet of a public park; three counts of third-degree possession of a CDS with the intent to distribute; three counts of third-degree possession of a CDS; third-degree money laundering; fourth-degree possession of CDS distribution paraphernalia; and possession of CDS paraphernalia, a disorderly persons offense.
Monroe was also charged with several traffic offenses and lodged in the Cape May County Correctional Center.
