COURT HOUSE – Drugs and weapons were seized and a 53-year-old Dennis Township resident was arrested after a search of a home on Route 47 north.

The Cape May County Prosecutor’s Office said Robert A. James, of the 700 block of Route 47 north, was arrested after a multijurisdictional task force served search warrants on the residence on July 22.

The Prosecutor’s Office’s Gangs, Guns, and Narcotics Task Force concluded a cooperative narcotics investigation of James on that date and then, along with the Drug Enforcement Administration, Homeland Security Investigations and the State Police Teams Unit, executed search warrants on James, his residence and his motor vehicle.

As a result of the searches, law enforcement personnel seized a B5 Systems AR assault-style rifle loaded with .223 caliber ammunition; a loaded Ruger 9mm handgun; a loaded Taurus 9mm handgun; a loaded .38-caliber SPL revolver; two bags containing numerous different colored/shaped pills believed to be Methylenedioxy methamphetamine, or MDMA, commonly known as ecstasy; approximately $5,800 in U.S. currency and various types of paraphernalia related to the packaging and distribution of controlled dangerous substances.

James was charged with four counts of second-degree certain person not to possess weapons; four counts of second-degree possession of a weapon during CDS offenses; one count of fourth-degree possession of drug paraphernalia with intent to distribute; one count of third-degree possession with intent to distribute MDMA; one count of third-degree possessing a weapon without a serial number, and one count of second-degree unlawful possession of an assault firearm.

Individuals convicted of second-degree crimes are subject to prison terms of five to 10 years.

James was lodged in the Cape May County Correctional Facility pending court proceedings.

Prosecutor Jeffrey H. Sutherland urged citizens to report any information on criminal activity to his office at 609-465-1135 or anonymously on the office website, cmcpros.net, or through the Cape May County Sheriff’s tip line at cmcsheriff.net.
