County Road Fatalities up Over Last Year

At the midpoint of 2025, road fatalities in Cape May County are running well ahead of last year’s pace. Already this year, the State Police have reported six fatal accidents with six deaths.

As of this date in 2024, the county had only two crashes with fatalities, and it recorded nine such deaths for the entire year. There were three road fatalities in the county in 2023 by July 1.

This year’s fatalities have been one pedestrian and five drivers. Three of the fatalities occurred in Middle Township, with two on Route 47. The other three occurred in Upper, Dennis and Lower townships.

According to State Police records, the six road fatalities by July 1 this year are the most in the first half of a year since 2022, when the county had nine crash deaths before the Independence Day holiday. That year the county had 15 road fatalities for the year.
