Convention Hall: A Most Unwelcoming Place

By Douglas and Patricia Todd, Cape May

To the Editor:

We have lived here for 24 years, and for most of that time we have enjoyed Convention Hall. Met friends there, enjoyed events and shows. We walk every day, and in cold months we need a place to sit and get warm halfway through our walk.

We were happy to see chairs in the Hall on Friday morning, the 17th. We were there about 10 minutes when a woman came out of the office and said, “You can’t be here.” We asked, “Why?” “Because it’s for the skaters.”

We said, ”That’s not till this afternoon.” Her response was, “You have to leave!”

The Hall has become the most UNWELCOMING place we have ever been in. Today was the worst! We will never again set foot inside. We didn’t deserve to be treated with such disrespect.

Cape May City Library is our “Cheers.” It’s where everybody knows your name, and they’re always glad you came. That is the WELCOMING spirit all of Cape May should embrace.
