By On Deck Staff

An Aviation Weekend featuring exciting stunt flying along the ocean and beach and extensive ground displays and model airplane flying at the Municipal Airport is set for Sept. 19-20.
The flying display will include world aerobatic champion, Rob Holland, formation flying and wing walking among other spectacular stunts.
Action kicks off Saturday, Sept 19 at the Municipal Airport 26th and Bay Avenue from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. A variety of antiques, World War II planes, Ultra lights, Homebuilt, Classics and Warbirds will be parked for inspection and judged for prizes.
There will be air demonstrations over the field including an advertising banner pick-up and Coast Guard helicopter rescue demonstration. Visitors will be able to view the FAA’s Aero Commander, N 50 plane and there will be airplane and helicopter rides for a fee.
Spectacular model airplane demonstrations will be performed by the Cape May County WASP. The program will feature jets, helicopters and other planes. The models will be put through dramatic maneuvers, some zooming straight up several hundred feet, then catapulting towards the ground and pulling out of the dive a short distance from the runway.
Some model jets will attain speeds of over 100 miles per hour. The WASP are local hobbyists who belong to the area chapter of the American Model Airplane Assn.
The stunt flying exhibition is set for Sunday, Sept. 20 from 1 to 3 p.m. and can be viewed from Sixth to 14th streets on the boardwalk. The Air Show will also feature Mike Wiskus in the LUCAS Oil Pitts, the Red Star Raiders Formation Team, fly bys from McGuire AFB’s C-17A Globemaster III and KC-10A Extender, Thirdstrike Wingwalking featuring Carol Pilon, a USCG Search and Rescue Demonstration and the USAF F-16CJ Viper East Coast Demonstration Team and others.
