Workshop to Focus on Rain Barrels, Home Water Conservation

By Press Release

COURT HOUSE – Those who would like to learn how to conserve rainwater and minimize stormwater run-off on their property may be interested in a workshop at the Cape May County Cooperative Extension office.
According to a release, if owners are concerned about the amount of water they are using to water plants, and if they have a downspout, then maybe a rain barrel is just the thing needed to get started. The Rain Barrels and Water Conservation for the Home workshop presented by Rutgers Cooperative Extension of Cape May County Department of Agriculture and Natural Resources will take place March 20 from 5:30 to 8 p.m. at Rutgers Cooperative Extension, 355 Court House – South Dennis Road, Court House.
The presenter will be Kristen Andrada, AmeriCorps New Jersey Watershed Ambassador. At this workshop, the first in the 2019 series, “Garden & Grow,” participants will learn why we should use rain barrels, how to build a rain barrel, and how to maintain a rain barrel.
The goal of this series is to teach locals how to improve or expand their home gardens in new ways.
Jenny S. Carleo, county agent, Department of Agriculture and Natural Resources, Rutgers Cooperative Extension of Cape May County, stated, “We are delighted to partner with our New Jersey Watershed Ambassador to present this worthwhile program that not only helps local gardeners but aids in conservation as well.”
This is a beginner class; therefore, no experience is needed.  There is a cost to attend the workshop, have dinner and go home with a rain barrel or a lesser amount for the workshop and dinner only.
Dinner is at 5:30 p.m., followed by the program at 6 p.m. Registration is limited to 20, early registration is preferred at http://RU-CMC-ANR.eventbrite.com. For information, call  609-465-5115, ext. 3607.
