WOODBINE – Mayor William Pikolycky is pleased to announce that Woodbine’s Sustainable Jersey Green Team’s April 18 “Rainbarrel Workshop”, at the Woodbine Community Center was a barreling success.
Forty-two participants, both Woodbine residents and others from as far away as Middle, Upper, and Dennis Townships and even West Wildwood, learned about the use and advantages of rainbarrels and made rainbarrels to take home.
The rain barrels were provided by Cumberland Dairy, through the Littoral Society. The Littoral Society also provided the kits for turning the barrels into actual rainbarrels.
Meredith Brown from the Littoral Society gave the presentation. She was joined by Society members Zach Nickerson, Emma Melvin, and Dewayne Ames. Members of Woodbine’s Green Team and Department of Public Works provided additional assistance.
Meredith’s presentation addressed water conservation in our Kirkwood/Cohansey aquifer region.
Green Stormwater Management includes efficient water use when watering plants and indoor water conservation. Some strategies include rainbarrels, planting trees, and using porous asphalt.
“As we celebrate the 47th annual Earth Day this week, this rainbarrel presentation and work session was particularly fitting,” commented Mayor Pikolycky. “We thank the Green Team for sponsoring this fun and educational activity and especially thank the Littoral Society for showcasing Woodbine’s efforts.”
