COURT HOUSE – Denise Venturini-South, director of Cape Hope, addressed a group of volunteers who gathered to stuff donated items into Blessing Bags.
According to a release, those bags are to be delivered to those they encounter through the upcoming weeks and months throughout the cold winter season.
Items include essentials like gloves, hats, scarves. Small toiletry items were included as were snacks. Also included was a letter of encouragement and a brochure with contact information for those who seek help.
The event was held Dec. 10 at Cape Community Center,1159 S. Route 9. This is the same location where a Code Blue warming center will be maintained in 2019.
Warming center volunteers must have cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) training.
To that end, CPR training will be given at a Warming Center volunteer workshop. It will be held at Cape Community Center, 1159 S. Route 9, Dec. 17 at 5. All municipalities or volunteers are welcome.
This newly-implemented idea of individual municipalities and non-profits operating warming centers will need the attention of the entire community if it is to improve and succeed, the release concluded.
